Concept

Some aspects of the Ice Cup concept have developed since last year: the repassage (which was done in the format of relay race last year) will be in the format of messenger championship race, involving manifests of pick-ups and deliveries, one-ways and checkpoints. This format will also allow us to really showcase winter transport by bicycle, as racers will be moving physical objects around the site.

1. Elimination heats:
Participants race against each other in groups of five; after three laps, the last two at the finish line are eliminated, and the first three move on to the next round.

2. Ice Championship race:
Tribute to the messenger championship tradition, “main race” style of event, it simultaneously serves as a repassage opprtunity for racers who were eliminated in the qualifying heats. The course will be adapted in order to set up checkpoints, intersections, one-way and two-way paths. Participants will pick up various objects and transport them according to delivery instructions (manifestes). The racer who completes the most manifests in the shortest time wins the championship race.
There are no equipment / class restriction in this race; however we believe that rubber class racers are at a severe disadvantage in this event.

Racers who finish the Ice championship race ahead of half of all racers will be allowed to advance to the finals/semi-finals, regardless of their position in the elimination heats.
Ice championship race will have a result sheet separate from the usual classification.

3. Finals
Racers who qualify for the finals in each category (rubber and ice class) will compete with for the ice cup on the same track as the elimination heats, but will have more laps to do (last year, it was five laps).
